Who is your favorite historical figure?

Malcolm X is one of my favorite historical figures. One of the most historic time periods was during the civil rights movement. Malcolm was so instrumental to African Americans at that time. Sadly, minorities are still fighting to be treated equal after all these years. Malcolm along with others like Martin Luther King Jr., laid the groundwork for change.

I find it interesting that Malcolm once had hopes of becoming a lawyer, when he was younger. Which changed after a teacher told him it was unlikely, due to the color of his skin. But in the end, he became a leader, civil rights activist, minister, and legend. He always knew him, and his work would mean more in his death than during his life. He was very prophetic because that statement holds so much truth.

After finding out the truth about someone he once followed and looked up to. He was disappointed and crushed. But this opened his eyes and mind more. Following his journey to Mecca and Saudi Arabia Malcolm’s views changed even more. Sharing his thoughts and teachings with these cultures/people provided positive results.

The men/race he once saw as devils he started see as equals and brothers to him. Which gave him new hope when he returned to the states. This new outlook didn’t sit well with everyone. Attempts were made on Malcolm and his family’s life. Which were unsuccessful. Until on Feb. 21, 1965, in Manhattan’s Audubon Ballroom at a speaking engagement. Malcolm’s life came to a very tragic end.

He used his voice to help, heal, lead and free our people. He gave his life so we all can live. Fairly, equally, and peacefully. Many didn’t like his “by any means necessary.” statement. But I get it we all have the right to protect ourselves and our family. By any means. Malcolm is such an inspiration and a legend in the black community.
