Finding out… I have psoriasis.

This one is so personal. I’m trying to keep it together while typing this. I noticed a patch on my right foot. It would come and go, and it was itchy. It was there for maybe 2 months or so. I initially thought it was contact dermatitis. I also thought that the issue I have with my scalf was dermatitis as well. That’s what my primary doctor told me years ago. It’s a pain in the ass. but I’ve been managing that issue well. But it limits me when it comes to wearing certain hair styles. Due to the flakes and sores I sometimes get.

Btw: My daughter and my dad both have the same issue. So, during a call with my dad last week he told me he went to his dermatologist. Who told him that he has psoriasis. My dad made me aware that it is an autoimmune disease. That is also hereditary. Which prompted me to get my foot checked out. Fast forward a day or so later. I had my doctor’s visit and found out that I indeed have psoriasis.

What Is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a skin disease that causes rashes with itchy, scaly patches. It tends to show up on the knees, elbows, trunk, and scalp. Psoriasis is a long-term disease that has no cure. But there are ways to treat and manage the disease. It can sometimes be painful. This condition goes through cycles. It may flare up for weeks or months and then go away for a while. This occurs due to an overactive immune system that speeds up skin cell growth. In a normal person skin cells grow and shed in a month.

But in someone with psoriasis this happens in only three to four days. Instead of the skin cells shedding, the skin precedes to pile up on the surface of the skin. This disease may cause inflammation and other issues. It can also affect your mental and emotional health, relationships, and how you handle stress.

The Different Types Of Psoriasis

As I stated before I have two types which are scalp and plaque.

I sometimes experience itching, skin tightness, swelling, stinging, scales, and occasional pain.

My Mental Health During This Discovery

I’ve had a rough few days. I get sad sometimes when I look at it. I’ve cried about it. I get annoyed on those days when it’s really itchy and scaly. When I get dressed and get ready to step out. I wonder if people are going to notice it and it just makes me very self-conscience. But regardless of me having psoriasis. I know that I’m an incredibly beautiful person inside and out. This disease doesn’t change that. Psoriasis will not steal or stop the show. I’m determined to shine regardless.

Treatment

There are topical treatments, immunosuppressants, UV therapy and other systematic treatments. I’m currently doing the topical treatment. I can notice a slight difference already. It makes hopeful and feel better.

I’ll continue to update you on my treatment and tell you guys about how I’m doing in a few months. Are any of you suffering from it? Do you have family members or friends that have it? Any advice?

Until next time… like, share, comment, and follow❤.
